for society or do not make much difference a sizable minority see working mom as a bad thing for society Family Work at Home The division of household labor Household labor In general the unpaid work done to maintain family members and or a home Routine labor Nondiscretionary routine tasks that cannot be postponed such as cooking washing dishes or cleaning Occasional labor Household tasks that are conflict is common and is reported more often by men than women From the 1970s 2008 women are experiencing the same of work family conflict women have always felt this conflict but from 1977 2008 the amount of men felt that work family conflict has drastically increased from 35 to 59 Why do you think more men are reporting more work family conflict than before We have changed the expectations of fathers With mother s roles shifting to working more hours that changes gender roles men have to take on the task of taking care of the kids Fathers also want to be involved more with their kids life Fathers are recognizing how important it is to be involved in their children s life and becoming more active and want to be there that s why they experience that level of conflict Father wants to attend every event with his child from Donut with dad to all sports games but feels conflicted with work expectations Fathers back then were expected to work come home and maybe discipline their children but not really spend time with them Today that has changed and father feel the work family conflict Graph was shown of The preferred work status of mothers 1997 2007 percent Mothers nowadays seem to favor part time over full time work and stay at home mothers are increasingly satisfied with their arrangement Different mothers report different levels of satisfaction with respect to how much they re working Working mothers would want to work part time 60 because I m working I would rather work part time Stay at home mothers prefer not to work Typically people are satisfied with whatever their arrangement they have if they re at home they would prefer not to work and if mother s had to work they would rather work part time Article stating I can t afford to pay my wife for all that she s really worth for all the work that she does for our family The calculated salary for a stay at home wife is roughly 100 000 private nanny individualized attention for all the children pays bills buys groceries cooks cleans etc Unique perspective how do you put a value on family work You are able to hire someone who can fulfill these needs but that all comes at a price Who s Minding the Kids Preschool Age Children Daycare Centers Nonresidential facilities that provide childcare FINAL EXAM CH14 18 FAD2230 JETER Family Childcare Providers Private homes other than then child s home where childcare is provided Can be at a church a privately ran organization can be attached to a private school Have to a license have to meet certain credentials and criteria stepped forth by the state those criteria have everything to do with type of credentials their employees have to have background checks whether or not they have to follow a curriculum all the way to ratio of number children they re facility can support For example in Florida children under the age of 1 have to be in a classroom with the ratio of 1 to every 4 children so 1 teacher with every 4 children So 8 children you have to have 2 teachers and even 5 children you have to have 2 teachers You as a parent should know these thresholds for when you look at a daycare center for your children Someone who within their own home opens up a childcare provider center and they provide childcare Not grandma or aunt not a relative For example someone in your neighborhood who opens up their home to childcare for whoever is willing to pay them to watch their children Typically cost less can lower their cost because they run it at their own home don t have to pay for rent lease Drawbacks if your family childcare provider is sick you re in a panic to figure out where to take your kids while you go to work compared to daycare centers where if a teacher is sick someone can cover People who come into your home to take care of your child More costly taking care of fewer children and more direct one to one attention going rate today is 10 an hour To have that type of one on one care will cost you more money but you have the comfort of knowing that your child is in their own home and taken care of Drawbacks if your nanny is sick or can t come then you re in panic again to where you place your child in order to go to work Nannies Babysitters Non relatives that provide childcare in the home Childcare is expensive especially for an infant in a daycare
