as GHB roofies or Ketamine that are used to immobilize a person to facilitate an assault d child abuse and neglect social norms i child abuse is an attack on a child that results in an injury and violates our ii types of child abuse 1 neglect 2 physical abuse 1 neglect is by far the most common form of child abuse 2 black and American Indian children are most likely to be abused whereas Asian American children are least likely a Withholding things from children that they actually need i Not going to doctor not feeding them not bathing them a Beating kicking pushing hitting with objects stabling strangling shooting etc b Can result in serious injury c Occurs in all social sectors but abused are most likely to be women young nonwhite and less educated with lower household incomes d What is the difference between spanking and abusing Sometimes you don t know until it s too late But in the state of Florida if you hit a child and leave a mark that stays more than 24 hours you have abused them e Children associate hitting with lack of love or disappointment 3 sexual abuse a Exposing children to porn doesn t always have to be the act b Incest i A type of sexual abuse ii Having sexual relationships with children 4 psychological or emotional maltreatment a can be verbal mental or psychological abuse that destroys a child s self esteem i threatening degrading humiliating iii Sibling Violence iv abuse usually occurs by someone we know closely v 1 800 96 ABUSE Florida Abuse Hotline this is for children only 1 2 you don t necessarily have to know for sure you just have to
