Study Guide for Final ExamAMH 2097 – 09 RobbinsBasic Information:The material covered for the exam will be all lectures through Thursday, December 6th (Laws since 1990). The groups/ideas included for this exam are Chinese, Northern Italians, Southern Italians, Mexicans and Cubans, Pennsylvania Dutch, 19th and 20th century Germans. Also included are the Immigration Restrictions/Laws and information on immigration today. Films and Other Media:The films you will be responsible for are: Godfather I and II, A Better Life and Scarface (1983). You will also be responsible for the film/clips seen in class and also the clips and political cartoons posted on Blackboard for the Chinese and Mexicans.Patriarchy: Asocial system in which the male is the primary authority figure central to social organization, and where fathers hold authority over women, children, and property. The government is not getting as much money as it should because the eldest male are getting this money and running the show. - The emperor uses the army to reconquer all these people; he has to raise taxes so that the army can become stronger, so that the army can take their own families over from their contribution of money. - People refuse to pay taxes. 2) Overpopulation: The emperor saves the food for the army so places like Guadong who do not grow their own food starve. - After Gov. messed up Canton there was a lack of jobs, food, etc.3) Imperialism: When a bad guy comes into a country and takes it over- European nations want to take over parts of china for OPIUM, TEA, AND SILK.
