fight in the war for once given good jobs gained respect however they were drafted unfairly larger percentages drafted than white people Black churches were prominent ares in the north Businesses run and patronized by african americans helped the economy significantly ex Madame CJ Walker created hair products for black people first african american millionaire Black Institutions Harlem Renaissance An artistic movement started in New York for african americans to express themselves ethnic enclave a group of people who cultivate together for common cultural interests ex little italy prevents both acculturation and assimilation Spread throughout the US produced many popular african american writers poets artists etc ex W E B Du Bois On Being Crazy Langston hughes A Dream Deferred Zora Neale Hurston Their Eyes Were Watching God The Civil Rights Act of 1964 Law passed by Congress in 1964 forbids in the final legislation discrimination based on race nationality color and gender in terms of
