regulatory bodies FCC federal communications commission telecommunications FCC has power it can go in and make policies Does the FCC has power to regulate internet They think they do The presidency thinks they do But the majority of the republican house doesn t agree Some numbers of industries don t agree areas of media regulation freedom of speech obscenity indecency privacy intellectual property ownership advertising truthfulness These are the areas that get regulated Freedom of speech which the FCC and the justice department get into Obscenity and indecency likewise He reads off the slide It is interesting to see how these things are organized and what issues are taken up What isn t represented here We don t have anything about the impact of representation of different groups of people by gender or race for example We don t regulate that We don t have much about the regulation of violence obscenity and indecency Should violence in certain media be regulated The FCC has a certain mandate to bring it up when it concerns broadcast TV and radio but not cable TV or the film industry or the satellite TV industry What are some of the issues that aren t here
