Cultural Forum Horace Newcomb Another ex Sanford and son began to take a certain African American life that the white audience were totally unfamiliar with and begin to make them aware of what African American life was like what the comedy was like what issues for people were what they really haven t been familiar with before Horace Newcomb came up with the idea of the cultural forum that you have ways that TV functions as an important medium of discussion in society He used the example of black programs on TV very much as he grew up in the rural south in a community that he began to realize was very prejudice and openly racist by its treatment of black people and African Americans He began to see an effect of TV on that society more and more as shows were produced about African American people that portray them in a much more positive light People in the rural south began to have 2nd thoughts maybe the way we ve grown up treating black people isn t a good idea maybe we need to change the way we do that A very slow change and discussion but Horace perceived that it was prompted by TV not so much as a political medium but as a cultural forum where cultural changes were laid out Tech change and TV
