Introduction to Production Part 1 1 says exactly from slide 2 in the course catalog RTF 318 is called Intro To Image and Sound exactly from slide Maybe you can hear smells or smell small vibrations but for the purpose of this class no 3 image when I think about film making I think about images and when I think about images I think about fine arts Caves of Lascaux in France cave paintings People coming back to their caves after a hunt and are trying to explain to friends childrens wives this amazing hunt they had They are probably gesturing how their friends and headlocks just wouldn t quite do it so they painted the bulls and buffalos on the walls of the cave In this pic he thinks they actually spit the ink out of their mouths onto the wall People have been expressing themselves through images forever this was 17000 years ago 4 Telling stories the image fastforward a bit to the 17th century in Velazquez They didn t have films or movies You could probably watch an opera or play but if you wanted to tell an image visually apart from that you basically had one frame to do it in this painting is kind of like the Christopher lonen of the oil painting If you look at it you have Velazques at the right and he has a big canvas in front of him What is he painting He thinks he is actually painting the royal couple In the far background in the painting you can see two people in the mirror You are seeing him paint a painting it is like inception This is what you could do before film came along
