Lecture 4 Understanding Media Policy and Regulation by Straubhaar Reads the questions Goals of media regulation political structure economic structure ideologies we try to protect our political structure of democracy We try to protect our economy where people sell stuff to each other with a somewhat structured way and maybe in a way that you could argue if it needs more or less structure Can we improve those things Do we limit their excesses You might think if there are needs that need to protect individuals as well These goals reflect our main goals or ideologies for our society But there are also some major differences for how different we protect different kinds of things We protect economic factors one way and we protect political speech and political factors another way although the supremely narrowed the distinction between that one We wonder and argue and fight and go to court make laws and policies to sort these things out
