The Men and the Idea This is your life a program for all America Ralph Edwards o This tube was a creation of Lee de Forest Grandfather of television o Susan Douglas Historian de Forest is a wonderful character He was the man responsible for getting radio broadcast to America o He asked a singer in 1907 and told her to sing in that The first person whose voice was broadcasted on radio was Madame Eugene Farrar o De Forest thought of radio to bring music to everyone s lives o He said he knew there were sound waves out there and he wanted to direct them to the audience He wanted to bring Opera to everyone in America Also wanted to become famous and rich De Forest formed a new form and fell in love with another girl Nora Blatch granddaughter of the early pioneer Elizabeth Cady Stan They were married in 1908 He grabbed headlines on his honeymoon by recording from the Eiffel Tower Later did it in in New York De Forest built a home where he says dreams come true but could not persuade Nora to say in it She said she wanted to work by his side because she was suspicious about his partners After the birth of her daughter Harriett in 1909 the de forest were divorced Not long after his companies collapsed for fraud 100 witnesses spoke against him The trial went through till New Years Eve Dec 31st 1913 People were outside partying while he was waiting for his verdict At 1 am the jury comes out De Forest collapses in his jury s arms When the jury is read he is found not guilty on 3 counts of fraud and disagreed on the 4th so he is a free man Therefore he builds a 4th company one that is actually legit He begins broadcasting in New York City and here begins so many fights with Edward Armstrong
