I will conduct a review for each exam on the class day beforethe test. All 3 exams will count equally to your final grade. There willbe no mandatory final exam; however, the final exam period will beused to administer a comprehensive final to those who missed one ofthe three scheduled exams. You must have an official, written reason(health or emergency) to miss and make-up an exam. PapersOne of the goals in this class is introduce you to scientific writing andthere will be 2 writing assignments to this end. The topics, which willbe announced the week before the papers are due, will be based onwhat I perceive are your overall areas of interest. I expect thesepapers to be about 2-3 pages long, double-spaced, 12-point type, spell-checked and grammatically sound. The maximum score on theseassignments will be 5 points each.AttendanceThis class is limited to 30 students. You have the opportunity toactively participate in the class by asking questions and contributingto our understanding by speaking up when see connections betweenthe material covered and your own life experiences. I will encouragelively discussion and debate. Finally, the material on the exams—withrespect to class notes and the textbook—will often be mutuallyexclusive, so you can see why regular attendance is necessary. Experimental Credit RequirementThe experimental requirement has no effect on your grade in thecourse. However, the Department of Psychology requires each studentenrolled in PSY 301 to participate in 5 hours of experiments to gainsome familiarity with, and appreciation of, the aims, methods,problems, and results of psychological research. Information aboutthe experimental requirement will be discussed in the first week ofclass. Please refer tohttp://www.psy.utexas.edu/psy/undergrad/courses/info/301.html.Failure to complete the experimental requirement will result in yourreceiving an Incomplete in the class. If, for some reason, you cannotor do not want to participate in experiments, you need to turn in a 5-page research paper (graded on a pass/fail basis), on the psychologytopic of your choice, to me before finals week. Academic DishonestyCheating in any form (copying, falsifying signatures, plagiarism) willnot be tolerated. It will result in a failing grade and being reported toThe Office of The Dean of Students.
