Biological Imaging Chamber Client: Lance Rodenkirch Team: Justin Lundell (Leader) Val Maharaj (Co-leader) Jeremy Schaefer (Comm.) Andrew Dias (BWIG) Michael Socie (BSAC) October 25 to November 1, 2007 Problem Statement In order to control the environment while using laser-based confocal and multiphoton imaging of live cells, an imaging chamber must be developed to be temperature and environmentally correct with perfusion options. Last Week’s Goals *Research and order parts Summary of Accomplishments *We found specific parts to order, so that we could present Lance with two options (with prices), the CO2 sensor and mixed chamber designs. *After meeting with Lance, we are going to attempt to pursue the CO2 sensor design. *Heating is not going to be a factor to consider with this design, so the main focus is on the CO2 feedback loop to maintain 5% CO2 +/- 0.5%. *Lance is going to get a new microscope, however he would like an imaging chamber that can be used with the old one regardless. This Week’s Goals *Understand last semester’s feedback circuit. *Meet with Prof. Webster on Friday to have him evaluate our circuit and component choices. *Have a final list of components for Lance to order by Wednesday next week. Difficulties There is limited circuit design experience on our team, so we are seeking out the appropriate resources for advice.
