Endotracheal Tube Securing Device Client: Dr. Lester Proctor Team Val Maharaj (leader) Deborah Yagow (BSAC) Andrew Bremer (BWIG) Colleen Farrell (Communicator) February 7 to February 13 2008 Problem Statement This will be the first stage of development of a disposable device to secure endotracheal tubes after insertion in patients in ORs and ERs and for ambulance workers. Although devices such as this have been marketed, none has been found to be superior to tape alone. Last Week’s Goals • Meet with client again • Finalize PDS • Establish contact with last year’s project team • Start brainstorming different ways to improve previous prototype Summary of Accomplishments • Met with client to go over requirements • Went down to the UW Hospital to try and see some intubation demonstrations • Finished first draft of PDS • Came up with some preliminary designs This Week’s Goals • Brainstorm different design components • Come up with our 3 main design alternatives • Do the design matrix Difficulties There were hardly any real difficulties this week. One annoyance that came up was when we went down to the hospital to see a live intubation of an endotracheal tube during a surgery, but by the time we finally got into the operating rooms, all the surgeries had already begun and some of them were even finishing up. We just wish Dr. Proctor had told us to come a bit earlier. Otherwise, this seemed like a productive week.Activities 02/08/08 Team Client Meeting to go over design requirements .5 hr 02/09/08 Val Research design components and type up PDS 1.5 hr 02/10/08 Andrew Updated Website .5 hr 02/11/08 Team UW Hospital Visit 1.5 hr 02/11/08 Deborah Design Brainstorming 1 hr 02/12/08 Val, Andrew, Colleen Design Brainstorming 1 hr 02/13/08 Team Meeting .75 hr Project Timeline Week ending: January February March April May Task 25 1 8 15 22 29 7 14 21 28 4 11 18 25 2 Product Development Background Research Brainstorm Decision matrix Final Design Prototype Testing Deliverables (due) PDS Reports
