Skin color Monitor Progress Report #1, September 12, 2007 Client: Prof. John Webster Team: Jack Ho (Leader) Patrick Kurkiewicz (Communications) Joseph Yeun (BWIG) Brian Ginter (BSAC) September 7 to September 14, 2007 Problem Statement Develop a miniature electronic device that records change in skin color during hot flashes. Last Weeks Goals - Role assignment - Contact client and schedule meeting - Gather preliminary information about skin testing, hot flash monitors, color-change monitors, etc. Summary of Accomplishments This week we each did some research on the subject of hot flashes, devices that monitor them, and color monitors. We read the literature provided by Professor Webster and found several products made by various companies that monitor color and skin health. However, none of the devices were very applicable to our problem, as they were in most cases far too large and/or “overqualified”. We met with professor Webster on Wednesday and went over previous designs of hot flash recorders, not having to do with color, and how they recorded they changes in the skin during a hot flash. We discussed the monitoring of skin color during a hot flash and he showed us some possibilities based on using LED’s and Photodiodes.
