Endotracheal Tube Securing Device Client: Dr. Lester Proctor Team Val Maharaj (leader) Deborah Yagow (BSAC) Andrew Bremer (BWIG) Colleen Farrell (Communicator) March 13 to March 26 2008 Problem Statement Dr. Lester Proctor, a professor of anesthesiology and pediatrics for the UW medical school, has expressed the need for a pressure indicator which would be used for endotracheal tubes. Over inflation of the cuff on an ET tube can cause tracheal damage, especially in children, and Dr. Proctor is looking for a qualitative indicator which would be attached to the ET tube and would give a consistent reading on the pressure in the inflated cuff. Last Week’s Goals • Buy parts • Enjoy Spring Break Summary of Accomplishments • Enjoyed Spring break • Bought preliminary parts This Week’s Goals • buy more parts • if everything comes in, begin construction Difficulties Spring break this week, so we didn’t work on the project. I ordered some parts that we think would work for our design. The tubing I got for the outside cylinder seems like it will work well. I got some rubber for the indicator to move up and down in the cylinder, as well as for capping each end of the outside tube. The plastic sheet I got for the diaphragm is too rigid to work, so we will have to buy something else. There have been some problems for buying the spring. After calculating the spring constant (about .2 pounds/inch), our spring options have been severely limited.Activities 03/13/08 Andrew Updated Website .25 hr 03/14/08 Val, Colleen, Deborah Meeting 1.0 hr 03/19/08 Val Bought parts 1.0 hr 03/21/08 Colleen Talked to Parts supplier .25 hr 03/22/08 Deborah Went through parts catalog .5 hr 03/26/08 Team Meeting 1.5 hr Total Time (hours cumulative) Team Activities 20.25 Andrew 11..25 Colleen 10.0 Val 16.0 Deborah 14.75 Project Timeline Week ending: January February March April May Task 25 1 8 15 22 29 7 14 21 28 4 11 18 25 2 Product Development Background Research Brainstorm Decision matrix Final Design Prototype Testing Deliverables (due) PDS Reports
