Quantification of abnormal sensory abnormalities Team: Jeremy Schaefer – Team Leader Steve Wyche – Communicator Adam Pala – BWIG Colleen Farrell – BSAC Week: September 5 - September 11 Client: Miroslav “Misha” Backonja Department of Neurology School of Medicine and Public Health H6/550 5th floor UW-Hospital Advisor: Prof. Mitch Tyler 2156 Engineering Centers Building 2756 MSC Problem Statement During sensory neurological examinations the physician marks the area of abnormal sensory perception. This area of sensory abnormality needs to be recorded, quantified and analyzed. Traditionally the area of abnormality was traced on transparency, and measured using a planimeter. However, many surfaces of human body are difficult to trace on transparency and for that reason, a better, more user friendly, reproducible method is necessary. Imaging technology using digital devices including cameras provides that opportunity. However, quantification analysis of the recorded image is needed.
