Blinking Orbital Prosthesis Week 4 – February 15-February 21, 2008 Team Members: Hallie Kreitlow – Team Leader Allison McArton – Communicator Ryan Kimmel – BSAC Joel Gaston– BWIG Client: Greg Gion Medical Art Prosthetics, LLC Phone: 608-833-7002, Email: [email protected] Advisor: William Murphy Assistant Professor Phone: 608-262-2224, Email: [email protected] Problem Statement The focus of this project is to design a blinking orbital prosthesis. When an individual loses an eye due to disease or injury, an orbital prosthesis can be used to increase the person’s quality of life and allow them to look whole again. Currently, orbital prosthesis do not blink or move and few attempts have been made to make them do so. Our goal as a team is to spark more interest in this study by designing and fabricating a patient model simulator with prosthesis that blinks. Last Week’s Goals The team will meet Tuesday, February 19 at 8pm with each other to continue brainstorming. The team should decide what ideas will work and which ideas will not. A preliminary design or designs should be created and further research on each one should be done so that one design can be focused on. The team should continue developing the problem statement and the PDS. The team should also take their picture. Last Week’s Events 02.15.08 Team: Met during class, talked briefly with advisor, discussed ideas, researched. 1.50h 02.20.08 Hallie: Researched design ideas. 1.50h 02.19.08 Allison: Researched design ideas. 1.00h 02.20.08 Ryan: Worked with design ideas on mechanical issues. 1.00h 02.16.08 Joel: Worked on design ideas 2.00h02.19.08 Joel: Worked on design ideas, researched places to buy parts 2.00h 02.19.08 Team: Discussed design ideas/problems, people that need to be contacted, presentation. 1.00h Summary of Accomplishment The team has continued their research and has come up with a few design ideas. They have continued to discuss which designs are most feasible. They have decided whom they need to contact and they have begun to think about their presentation. Statement of Team Goals This week the team hopes to have developed a few designs and have contacted some outside resources for help. They will assign tasks for the presentation in order to ensure it gets done in an organized and timely fashion. Everyone will continue to tweak the designs to find any problems associated with them. Also, the team will continue revising the problem statement and PDS. And finally, they will develop their design matrix. Individual Goals Hallie Research, designs, think about presentation, send out progress report. Allison Research, designs, think about presentation, contact other references. Ryan Research, designs, think about presentation. Joel Research, designs, think about presentation, contact other references, update website. Difficulties The biggest difficulty this week is choosing a design and determining the details of the design. We are not experts when it comes to a lot of the issues and problems that surface. We must contact people who know more about these topics to help us.
