A method is needed for automated delivery of respiratory anti-inflammatory drugs, like albuterol, while using the CPAP device. Delivery of the necessary dose of such drugsshould either be continuous or at timed intervals over a patient’s sleep cycle.Side Project Suggested by Dr. Teodorescu: Create an ultrasonic nebulizer from an ultrasonichumidifier.Last Week’s Goals• Have Power Point slides ready for group meeting at 6PM on 10/12/09• Practice presentation 10/15/09• Annie – Continue researching patents for functioning of CPAP and nebulizers• Patrick & Joe – Work on finding ways to modify the piezo component of the ultrasonichumidifier to make it smaller and spill proof• Steve – Look into buying a valve and getting the “new idea” ready for testing• Use a spectrophotometer to ensure that albuterol is actually getting nebulized• Once the above listed tasks are completed, testing will be done to determine if the piezoportion can be placed distal to the patient and still deliver a significant portion ofnebulized drugSummary of Accomplishments• Compiled PowerPoint Presentation 10/12• Practiced PowerPoint Presentation 10/15• Mid-semester Presentations 10/16• Outlined agenda for next month to obtain parts for prototypingThis Week’s Goals• Pat & Joe – meet at ECB at 4:30 PM on 10/19/09◦ Order new ultrasonic humidifier by 10/20◦ Find voltage rating necessary for humidifier switch by 10/20◦ Obtain schematics for ultrasonic humidifier by 10/20• Annie & Steve – meet at ECB at 4:30 PM on 10/19/09◦ Get outline of budget from Annie by 10/19/09◦ Order Switch by 10/23/09◦ Order DAQ board by 10/23/09◦ Order Valves and Tubing for final design by 10/23/09• Meeting with Professor Webster at 12:40 on 10/23/09• Group Meeting on 10/23/09Project Difficulties/ Reason for Missing Goals• Ultrasonic humidifier from Wal-Mart broke because it was run with no liquid over• Albuterol didn’t aerosolize until it was mixed with water• More Albuterol samples are needed – will pick up from Dr. T by 10/29/09ActivitiesTeam10/12/09 Compiled Mid-semester Presentation10/15/09 Met with Dr. Teodorescu (Steve, Joe, Annie)10/15/09 Practiced Presentation10/16/09 Mid-semester Presentations10/16/09 Lab Work with US Humidifier (Patrick, Steve, Joe)Patrick• Wrote last week’s progress report• Sent out agenda for next month• Worked on PPT slidesAnnie• Correspondence with client and advisor• Worked on PPT slidesJoe• Worked on PPT slidesSteve• Worked on PPT slides• Organized PPT presentationCosts• Ultrasonic Humidifier – From Wal-Mart $30.56 (Reimbursed by client $40 cash)• Ultrasonic Humidifier – From Home Depot $31.64 (Not reimbursed
