real NHL hockey game Player s Role Your role in the game is a combination of a player and coach of your hockey team As a coach you have control over the offensive and defensive strategies and pressure Along with this the coach can also trade players sign 2 players off of waivers put players on waivers draft rookies monitor rookie performance in the minors before draft edit lines and allow simulation of the game instead of playing it as a player As a player you have to skate pass shoot defend play goalie check switch lines fight and many other skills Installation The installation is fairly simple and allows options that allow the parts of the game to be installed on the hard drive or left on the CD This allows the user to have varying levels of hard drive space to be able to play the game The best for speed is to install everything onto the hard drive but the user stills needs to have the CD in the CD ROM drive User Interface The user interface outside of game play is mouse controlled and allows the user to set up the game to their liking The first screen that the user sees allows the user to select what type of game or practice they want The user interface is easy to understand by having icons such as a movie reel that when clicked shows saved replays of games The game can be played using the keyboard mouse or joystick The best control is the gamepad style of joystick because it is more comfortable controlling the players in the game Also with the gamepad the user has more control over the players since they can set the ten or more buttons to control different actions of the players Game Play The game play is much like the play of NHL hockey in real life The game can be a single hockey game a season including playoffs only playoffs or a world tournament When in the season mode of play the user can select between short medium or normal number of games during the season The user can also select the length of each period along with levels of other attributes of the game such as amount of penalties called amount of fighting along with many others For playoffs and tournament games the user can select how many games per round or how many round robin games for a tournament There are also different levels of computer difficulty ranging from beginner to all star The game play is much like real hockey where the computer controlled players performs like the settings the user selected Scoring There are multiple levels of scoring One has to do with individual game scores where the team scoring the most goals wins The other type of scoring has to deal with winning the tournament playoffs and or season 3 Artwork The artwork in this game is very well done The opening video is awesome It is a clip of multiple video shots from the real NHL The artwork for the user interface has the 3D button effect that makes it more interesting to set up the game before playing The game play artwork is very good as well Each teams arena has the board advertising and rink logos along with the scoreboard for each arena The players are very well done as well the user can import their own face to put on their created player to make the game play more personable Sound and Music The sound and music for this game is very good The intro music fits the video very well and gets the user pumped up for playing the game The sound effects in the game range from rink announcers anthem singers play by play and game play sound effects ranging from puck sounds skating sounds crushing checks and many other sound effects that add to the play of the game Special Features The artificial intelligence of the computer players is amazing They play and move like the real NHL players They also play like how the team strategy is set Manual The manual is very thin and does not offer much to the user The only use that the manual offers is the explanation of the controls for the different moves within the game Such as what buttons pass the puck or shoot the puck Bugs There are a few bugs in the game play but none cause the game to crash They are more like loop holes in the artificial intelligence of the computer players such as always being able to score a goal from a certain spot on the ice GAME REVIEW What is good fun about the game Why The best part of the game is scoring with a good play The reason for this is that the computer AI makes the game play like real hockey So when you score with a good play it means that you have had played good defense and or made good passes to get a good chance at scoring a goal It is also fun scoring a goal because of the sound effects of the siren and the ability to taunt the other team after scoring a goal 4 What is bad not fun about the game Why The one part of the game that is not real fun is the fights in the game The winner is determined by how fast you can push the punch button which is not how all real hockey fights are Most real hockey fights end up with wrestling where no punches are thrown How does it compare to similar games in the same genre All the other hockey games do not have very good graphics or control of the players In my opinion there is no other hockey game that is better then NHL 2000 Why is it better or worse than similar games It is better in the 3D graphics and Dolby Surround sound that adds a lot to the game play to make it more realistic The game also combines the arcade action with some of the simulation of real …
