Hist 1053/25/19Charles Dickenson and Andrew Jackson Duel based on honor, Jackson kills Dickenson in duel. Promotes himself as a military man not a politician. Enormously popular among middle class voters. You have to bea white man to vote, but don’t need to have a piece of land to vote. Beginning of a new party system. Four candidates on election day, no one gets a majority which results in a tie. John Quincy Adams vs Andrew Jackson – Adams wins the electoral college. Jackson believes that the election has been stolen from him, Jackson ties his allegation of corrupt bargain, don’t ever trust politicians again. Represent the 2nd race John Quincy Adams only supported by NY and North East while Jackson had the rest of the us.Jackson was the first log cabin president to be born in very humble, many of his followers were westerners. Seen as a savior, but Jackson couldn’t see why they viewed him as such. Jackson said that power corrupts, only takes one term as president.Wants to sweep out the old house and bring in new blood – rotation in office. Get government out of thebusiness of supporting economic growth. Peggy Deacon – liking men too much, Wife of John Deacon. Comes to her defense. Demands that the wife’s of his cabinet members be friends with Peggy, cabinet members resigns. “Obsessed with this situation” accomplished little of what he wanted to
