Saint Sernin is an important pilgrimage churchi. Pilgrimages could last up to a yearii. Along the pilgrimage routes, towns with hotels/churches sprang up every 20 milesc. Dedicated of St. Sernin (AKA St. Saturninus), Bishop of Toulouse, early 3rd century CE i. He wouldn’t renounce his faith, and so he was tied to a bull and dragged throughout the town and over a clifd. Reliquary- container for holy relicsi. Reliquary of St. Sernin here e. Clerestory windows: windows above a roof line flanking the naveviii. Tribune or tribune gallery: a gallery over the inner aisle flanking the nave (makes room for as many people as possible)f. Sculpture- Christ In his Majesty, or Maiestas Dominii. One hand upraised, other hand holding a bookii. Surrounded by angel, eagle, ox, and a lion (the tetramorphs of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)iii. Reminder of last judgment /end of the worldg. Made of stone construction i. Doesn’t burn down ii. Doesn’t have to be replaced iii. Acoustics so people can hear the mass and music, despite the fact that there is always movement going
