ARTH 1380 1ST Edition Lecture 26 Outline of Last Lecture - Ara Pacis Agustae- Temples- Julio-Claudians- PompeiiOutline of Current Lecture - House of Faun- Alexander mosaic- Different style of painting - Flavians- Colosuem- Trajan- PantheonCurrent Lecture- The House of the Faun is on e of the most famous houses - There is an atrium to the house but the walls and ceiling is missing because it was mobbed during the world war- It covers a whole block- The Alexander mosaic is famous and sits between tow parastyle gardens - It is a cool pleasant dining room - One of the most famous mosaic - The Alexander mosaic is a replica inside the house - It is Alexander the Great in one of the major battles against the Persians - It was known painting in its time and that is why it was put in mosaic - It is a show piece in the rooms - It shows us the achievement of painting at this time- The shading in the painting gives it complex dimensions - It is very detailed and shows things that would be seen in the battle like the jewelry the Persians would wear- The atrium of House of Sallust has a sky light above- It has a big open door- It has a grand space and is made more great with the artworks- The walls are plastered with fresco to give off the impression that is made of fancy stone- First style wall painting is the earliest style - We study art in the order of the styles- It is different painting to make it look fancy These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
