Vernon in March 1797-Died at Mt. Vernon on December 14, 1799The XYZ Affair -Relations with France. They reacted to this affair by capturing American ships at sea. America did not want to go to war with France so France tried to force them to-Charles Pickney was sent to France by the Americans to try and make some negotiations-3 French agents (citizens XYZ)-French demands-"Millions for defense but not one cent for tribute"-Preparations for war-Department of Navy - 1789 The American's started getting VERY serious about fighting back against the FrenchThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
