Purpose of Dreaming- Negative emotional content occurs in 8 out of 10 dreams- Many people dream about failures, being attacked, pursued, or rejected.- Sexual dreams do not occur very ofteno 1 out of 10 in men o 1 out of 30 in women- Lucid dreaming: dreaming and knowing we are dreaming. Usually being able to do this because of keeping a dream journal- Dream’s also help process information from our day; sift and fix all the important information- Dreams provide the brain with periodic stimulation to develop and preserve neural pathwaysII. Wish fulfillment- Sigmund Freud said dreams provide a safe way to discharge unwanted feelings. - Therefore, dreams have symbolic meanings and signify our unacceptable feelings- Manifest content- the actual content in a dream, we remember this upon waking.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
