Progress Report 8March 23, 2004Project Title: Ultrasonic Probe for Image Guided BiopsyTeam Members: Joe Zechlinksi, Megan Buroker, Noelle Simatic, Kevin JohnsonClient: Frederick Kelcz, PhD, MDAdvisor: Justin Williams, PhDDate: 03/10/04-03/23/04Problem Statement: The goal of this project is to develop an intravascular ultrasonic probe (IVUS) to provide better imaging without artifact during mammographic and MRI guided biopsy procedures. Usually Biopsy procedures are done with MRI or CT guidance; however, biopsy needles can obstruct imaging of tumors making it difficult to make fine adjustments in needle placement. AnIVUS will theoretically be able to image the area 1-2cm around the needle, allowing for fine adjustments.Statement of Team Goals:1. Understand client requirements2. Continue to familiarize ourselves with related material 3. Continue the design project.a) Obtain biopsy needle to work withb) Brainstorm phantomsc) Build phantomsd) Develop prototype4. Begin testing5. Evaluate testing results6. Revise paper with suggestions from clientSummary of Weekly Team Accomplishments:- Finished and handed in mid-semester paper- Handed in design notebooks for evaluation- Emailed clientDifficulties: Now that we have a probe to work with, one difficulty we may encounter in the near future is getting a biopsy needle to work with. Since spring break occurred during the time period this report covers, there was not a lot of progress made on the project after we handed in our final mid-semester report and our design notebooks. Work will resume this week.Weekly Goals:- Contact and discuss possible sources of core biopsy needles with Dr. Kelcz.- Decide on which phantoms we’d like to test & build them- Develop prototype- Begin testingJoe:6.0 hrs Editing/revising final paper0.5 hrs Notebook touch-upsTotal: 6.5 hrsKevin:4.0 hrs Touch-ups on final paper1.0 hrs Emailing client & Prof. Zagzebski0.5 hrs Meeting with Prof. Williams0.5 hrs Revising report post hand-inTotal: 6.0 hrsNoelle:1.0 hrs Notebook touch-ups0.5 hrs Editing/revising final paper0.5 hrs Progress ReportTotal: 2.0 hrsMegan:0.5 hrs Editing/revising final paper & notebook touch-upsTotal: 0.5 hrsTeam Total Hours for this week: 15.00 hrsCumulative Team Hours to date: 135.75 hrsProject Schedule: 3/7-4/22 Work on final design (i.e. Develop a prototype, testing, etc)4/23-4/29 Prepare final presentation and paper4/30 Final poster presentation5/5 Written final report due5/7 Final meeting with
