Progress Report for Week 10 of BME 200/300 Face Mask Dr. Kurt Sladky (client); Dr. Steve Johnson (client); Katy Reed (group leader); Kristen Seashore (communicator); Steven Skroch (BWIG); Janelle Anderson (BSAC) Date: 11/3/05 to 11/9/05 Problem Statement: Develop a face mask for use in reptile pneumotachometery. The face mask must be air tight and have separate input and output ports so they can be connected to pressure regulating and monitoring equipment. The masks will be used multiple times and will need to be cleaned. Restatement of Team Goals: To develop separate air tight mask for a corn snake and a bearded dragon with input and output ports. Team Goals for Next Week: Begin construction on final versions of Snake masks and find out about quality of seal on the bearded dragon mask from our client. Individual Goals for Next Week: Katy Reed: Finish assignments for class lecture, begin construction of final Snake masks, find out what “sticky hands” are made of, locate snake tubes. Kristen Seashore: Figure out a good way to fit the mask in the box without shattering the plastic. Steven Skroch: Finish snake mask final design. Two copies with 5 extra membranes. Janelle Anderson: Finish assignments for next class period, update notebook, build snake mask design in solidworks, work on bearded dragon mask construction. Summary of Accomplishments: -Thursday Katy, Kristen and Steve met to deliver the Bearded Dragon prototype to our client. At the meeting our client gave us a copy of their animal care protocol. Since the Bearded Dragon was left at home by the owner we left the prototype mask with our client so it could be tested once the lizard was available. - Friday during class we talked with our advisor about what kinds of information can be found in the animal care protocol. We also decided what materials we were going to buy for mask construction over the weekend. - Saturday Katy, Steve, and Janelle went to Home Depot to buy pipe fittings and rubber gaskets. We also went to Dorn Hardware to look for rubber gaskets, but did not find any. Kristen went to Petsmart to buy gerbil cages for the holding container that will attach to the Bearded Dragon mask. - Monday we found out that the pipe fittings we had bought Saturday were not air tight, so we needed to change the design and go back to Home Depot. - Tuesday Katy, Steve and Janelle went to Home Depot and bought different pipe fittings with gaskets, glue, and sandpaper for the final Snake masks.Statement of Team Goals: To create a mask that con be connected to a pneumotachometer and a regulator for a Corn Snake and another for a Bearded Dragon. Project Schedule: This week the team decided on designs and materials for the final versions of the snake masks. Next week we will begin construction of the final Snake masks and decide on the final Bearded Dragon mask design. Difficulties: Due to busy schedules it is hard to find a time when the entire team is available to go shopping or work on the prototype at the same time. Activities: Katy, Kristen and Steve (45 min) met with the client to deliver the prototype of the Bearded Dragon mask (Thursday). Team spent 1h in class meeting with our advisor, coordinating schedules, and deciding what things needed to be bought for the masks (Friday). Katy, Steve, and Janelle (2h 10 min) went to Home Depot and Dorn Hardware to get supplies for the Snake masks while Kristen (30 min) bought gerbil cages for use on the bearded dragon masks (Saturday). Katy, Steve, and Janelle (30 min) met to brainstorm and design before a trip to Home Depot (Monday). Katy, Steve, and Janelle (2h) went to Home Depot to buy Snake mask materials (Tuesday). Katy Reed: 1h, wrote progress report 30 min, updating design notebook Kristen Seashore: 15 min, contacting client Steven Skroch: none Janelle Anderson: none Project Time Line: Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.
