STRATEGY SCRIPT #7 Strategy: Rehearsal/Imagery Content: Solid Waste Title: "And You Thought Garbage Wasn't Fascinating" Time Required: 30 Minutes Number of Participants: 15 Target Audience: 7th and 8th Grade Students Goal of Activity: To identify important characteristics of Solid Waste Purpose of Script: Demonstrate the use of Rehearsal and Imagery as learning strategies. Learning Outcome(s), Gagnes Taxonomy: Defined Concepts Learning Outcome(s), HEO Taxonomy: Knowledge Learner Characteristics: Completed the Sixth Grade. Entry Skills: Minimum 6th grade reading comprehension level. Setting: Computer or Classroom Media: Computers and computer technician. Process: A passage on solid waste will be presented on the screen, which will initially be read to the learners. The learner will then use a variety of rehearsal strategies to remember key points contained in the passage. This will include highlighting the key points, changing the points to a different type of font, and changing the color that the key points are presented. Additionally, the learner will be able to highlight the words and the highlighted words presented in a list. As a second part, the key terms would be presented as animated features on the screen and presented in various scenes. To further enhance this information, the learner would be instructed at the end of the program to sit back and close their eyes. After a designated period, the story would then be read out loud by the program, during which time the learner would be requested to visualize these points. At the conclusion of the program, a computer-based test would be administerred to the learner. Strategy Assessment: Computer-based assessment.
