You will be working in Occupational Therpapy with families of children with cerebral palsy and covering both inpatient and outpatients. You must research and prepare for this clinical rotation. The class will divide into four groups, each completing one of the tasks below. You will report your findings back to the entire class in two weeks and provide handouts for all. Task Each group will play the role of an OT with a slightly different task for the hospital. Group One- Medical Information-Diagnostic Summary You will be the OT assigned to work with children with CP with spasticity. You will find out all the most recent information about medical treatments and follow up therapy interventions for these children. You must prepare an indepth diagnostic summary of this condition for your classmates. Group Two- You will be the OT Liason to the Parent support group run by the hospital. You must find out about resources in the local and state community for parents. You will coordinate an informational newsletter for parents and monthly meetings. You must produce this months newsletter. Group Three- You will be the OT working closely with the MD providing spasticity reduction interventions for children with CP. You must research the more common methods of reducing spasticity, indications for their use, and the role of therapy for interventions. Provide a chart for your classmates highlighting these different technques, indications, contraindications, and follow up therapy interventions. Group Four- You will be the OT with a focus on promoting independent living skills for children. Research the intervention techniques used for treatment and the assistivie devices that OT’s may prescribe for use.
