Strategy Scenario #3 Melody Waltman Gray Imagery Strategy: Imagery Content: Performing task sequence in the landing pattern for Cessna 172 airplane. Title: Mastery of Cessna 172 landing pattern Number of Participants: 4 Target Audience: New flight students with a minimum of 3 hrs flying time Goal of Activity: To use imagery to aid students in remembering the task sequence performed from entering a landing pattern to landing a Cessna 172 airplane. Purpose of the Script: For new flight students, the sequences of tasks that occur when landing an airplane are rapid. Initially the procedure is stressful and difficult. Imagery will be used to assist students in remember this task sequence. Learning Outcomes: Gagne’s Learning Outcomes- Cognitive Strategies Bloom’s Taxonomy – Knowledge, Comprehension and Application Learner Characteristics: Typical beginning flight student Entry Skills: Student must have performed at least three landings to effectively and correctly image the landing pattern. Setting: Airport ground school class room. Time Required: One 2 hour session Media: Cessna 172 Process: 1. The instructor will review landing pattern procedures in the classroom. 2. The instructor will have students do a relaxation exercise in the classroom. 3. The instructor will have students close their eyes as he/she leads them verbally through the landing pattern in the classroom. 4. Students with their eyes closed are to visualize themselves performing the task sequence for landing the airplane several times without the instructor guiding them.5. The instructor will then take each student one at a time to perform the landing pattern task sequence in the airplane. Strategy Assessment: After the imagery technique were the students more proficient in performing landings in the Cessna 172? REFERENCES: West, C. K., Farmer, J. A. & Wolff, P. M.
