GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.-Primary needs need to be met first, which leads to fulfilment/self-actualization, and at the very top, transcendenceSelf-Determination Theory-We watched a video about this in class:- It’s accepted that if you reward a behavior, you get more of it- And if you punish the behavior, you get less of it- Study done at MIT where subjects had to memorize digits, do word or special puzzles, or throw aball into a hoop- There were 3 levels of reward based on how well the person did- For the tasks requiring mechanical skills, the higher rewards garnered higher performance- For skills that required even a rudimentary cognitive ability, the larger the reward, the poorer theperformance- Experiment replicated in rural India with same result- There are 3 factors that lead to better performance: autonomy, mastery, and purpose- Autonomy: one company gives employees 24 hours to work on anything they want and gets great results- Mastery: people play musical instruments on weekends for fun and to get better at it- In the same way, people do things they like for free, like editing Wikipedia- Purpose: people like the creator of Skype or Steve Jobs; they do what they do to make the world a better place or pursue a
