Due Week 5 Day 4 The organization where you work is expanding into the global market by opening an office in China What are some potential ethical and social issues that may arise as the company expands into this new area Can these issues be avoided or mitigated Why or why not Your answer should be between 100 150 words When a company is expanding into another region or area especially in another country the American company needs to be sensitive to the receiving countries needs and cultures so to not upset the native people I don t believe every situation or circumstance could be ironed out before the expansion but I do believe there are steps the American company could take to mitigate these issues I believe that the company could have a corporate liaison from the receiving country to make sure that any cultural differences could be explained I also believe the company could hold a cultural training to explain some of the habits and customs of the native people Response 2 There could potentially be many ethical and social issues that may arise in this situation For example China follows its own rules and laws regarding business ethics and their culture is different than ours so what may be acceptable in the US may not be tolerated in China and vice versa there may be practices that are acceptable in China that our culture may view as unethical For instance in the Chinese culture when developing a relationship business or otherwise it is often customary to offer a gift to the other party In the US accepting gifts in a business setting this could potentially be perceived as a bribe They also have different labor laws and what might be acceptable in China could be viewed as unethical practices in the US For instance child labor laws and working conditions are handled differently in the US than in China These issues might be avoided by agreeing to working conditions and practices for the china office before its established Those that will be a part of the office in China would need training on local customs and business practices that would help to mitigate potential social issues that may arise
