Due Week 1 Day 6 What are examples of virtues values and moral concepts How do each of these relate to one another In what ways are they separate and in what ways are they connected Your answer should be between 100 150 words A virtue is an outside measurement of an individual adheres to a list of morals encompassing general societal ethics or rather how good they are in relation to the consensus in certain areas Bravery is considered a virtue If an individual is deemed to have the virtue of bravery they are considered by society to be good at facing danger without showing fear A value is basically a prioritized list of virtues The priority is set based on how society wants it s members to act An individual may have to choose between two different virtues for example should they be cautious or aggressive in a given situation A person is said to have good values when their individual prioritized list of virtues matches or closely resembles so Moral Concepts are the ways in which individual morals are developed For example early childhood morals are based on unilateral authority Unilateral authority is derived from adults in the sense that the adult sets the rules and enforces them D Elkind Moral concepts develop as an individual ages The ways various moral concepts shape individual morals will determine virtues and values Reference for moral concepts taken from http www education com reference article moral concepts children Response 2 Examples of virtues values and moral concepts are developing a successful business or invention donating to charity graduating from school and respecting your elders Each of these relate to each other because they are significant in doing good and striving for excellence These are examples of what is important to people and how they live their lives Giving to charity and being successful in something would be considered a virtue because it signifies perfection in being unselfish and successful Graduating from school is something that most people value because it represents responsibility and leads to independence Respecting your elders is a moral concept that people are taught as children These examples are separate because people can accomplish virtues but not value them People also value things that are not part of any moral concept These examples are connected because people live by moral concepts that they value and strive for everyday
