Due Week 5 Day 5 Identify a cultural practice that is considered acceptable in one country but is not acceptable in another What are some cultural considerations that affect the resulting ethical perspectives in differing cultures Your answer should be between 100 150 words There were several of these instances listed in our text Slavery in the US and Europe female genital mutilation in parts of Africa and human rights in China Different religions define morality and hierarchy in different ways People were able to argue for and against slavery based on biblical readings Females in Africa were mutilated in this manner to ensure that they would not cheat on their husbands Also some countries have historical prejudices Some cultures like in China value the community over the individual The greater good is more important than individual freedoms or rights The real question seems to be is there an overall worldwide right and wrong that supercedes culture and religion I think there is Response 2 A cultural practice that comes to mind that happens in other countries but not in ours is the Air Kiss or Check Kiss when greeting another man or woman In Spain this practice is acceptable and normal but if someone were to do that here in the US they would be stared at and the receiver would most likely be very uncomfortable if they were not expecting this practice to happen It could even be taken as sexually harassing another here in the US However in Spain if you didn t greet another in this manner it might seem insulting or rude to the other person So in business dealings on a global perspective its necessary to understand the cultural practices of different cultures and countries you will be dealing with so as not to offend
