Running head ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE 1 Organizational Profile Learning Team ETH 316 Ethics and Social Responsibility Organizational Profile 2 Organizational Profile Organizations have different purposes and mission statements from one another They can range in their functions towards a community For example one organization can be formed to bring awareness of injured soldiers Another example of an organization is that they can provide meals to the elderly Organizations take a responsibility and involvement in a community A community can influence individuals to form an organization An organization should always have room for improvement No individual is perfect and this also can be implied for this topic Organizations will always have tiny flaws that would need to be either worked on or addressed Similarities and Differences between the Organizations Often community organizations will differ from one another but still tackle the same issue serving the community to improve it Many ways are available to go about achieving these improvements but ultimately each organization s responsibility is to somehow give back to the community whether focused on individuals or the community at large One example is the Meals on Wheels program Meals on Wheels is a national organization that targets individuals in need such as the elderly who have problems keeping themselves well fed Even though this program targets the older population citizens have a potential for some day making use of it themselves Even if he or she is not directly receiving the benefits from this program a family member may be receiving aid Similarly the South Plains Food Bank of Lubbock TX helps those also in need of assistance This food bank targets individuals or individual families instead of the community at large The organizations that have strategies similar to the food banks or Meals on Wheels need Organizational Profile 3 to have a targeted approach to make sure those with the greatest need are the ones receiving the aid of the community In contrast organizations like Grand Prairie Friends or Goodwill Industries tackle social issues on a larger scale that are less targeted Their approach is doing the most good in a blanket approach Grand Prairie Friends sets aside land for sustainable growth for future generations so everyone can reap the benefits It would be very difficult to target individuals for a program such as this so instead Grand Prairie Friends offers an open invitation to anyone who wishes to participate The approach offers citizens a way to give to their community while at the same time allowing everyone to enjoy their social efforts Likewise Goodwill Industries will set aside a portion of their profits to use for social initiatives This way the organization is not locked into a single operation but can react to a broader range of social needs within the community Various social organizations will go about how they aid society whether it is a targeted approach or a blanket outreach However every one of an organization s projects aim to better society in at least some way The differences arise because the social needs are unique and require a unique approach Whatever the problem may be in the future it s comforting to know dedicated citizens are willing to put forth the effort in hopes of a better tomorrow Organization most likely to Work for There were five organizations that were used to compare and contrast The five organizations chosen were South Plains Food Bank The Wounded Warriors Project Grand Prairie Friends Goodwill Industries and Meals on Wheels After reviewing each profile of the organizations the one chosen that would be most likely to work for would be Meals on Wheels Organizational Profile 4 Meals on Wheels is a community organization that helps seniors by providing meals daily Along with providing meals to seniors the community organization offers extension to their services by providing transportation running errands and companionship There are many reasons why an individual would want to work at the organization but only three are provided First would be the ability to be a part of a program that could extend a senior life by eliminating hunger in the community Many seniors do not have the resources to go to a grocery store or the funds to do so to retrieve a healthy meal With being a part of the organization I would be socially responsible in contributing my time to ensure seniors in the area receive the food they need daily to remain healthy Second reason to be employed by the organization is the ability to provide companionship to a senior citizen The education obtained from elders while providing companionship will allow me to reflect on life differently Through the process of companionship a new friend is retrieved in which I can provide the quality of life to the individual by just being there Lastly being part of an organization that is non profit is a great quality All the money received from other people is used directly to provide services to senior citizens No one gains from the money received except the people served in the community The qualities of the Meals and Wheels are numerous in which anyone would want to be a part of the community organization To improve the community organization two suggestions are given Meals on Wheels is a great program but lacks public awareness I can think of the hundreds of senior citizens that go without food or quality of food because they do not have resources to get quality food Making the community organization more known would allow all more seniors to retrieve services and allow more volunteers to give a helping hand Meals on Wheels could also improve as well by expanding the age group it serves Many seniors need meals on wheels but so does older adults Organizational Profile 5 that has not reach the senior age group By expanding the age group the community organization would be able to reach a larger group of people with its services Difference and similarities can always be pointed out within organizations Some organizations help others whether by informing or by physically assisting These types are usually on a volunteer basis A small percentage of individuals devote their time for people that they do not know Even though more participation would be appreciated the volunteers now are making a difference in a person s life An organization builds a reputation for the work they provide whether they are small or large With this they take
