Due Week 3 Day 5 Consider an organization where you work or one with which you are familiar What is an issue within the organization that could benefit from applying ethical principles How can these principles be used Your answer should be between 100 150 words The US Military would benefit greatly if we could apply ethical principles to the procurement of everything from pens and paper to warships Instead of allowing an open free market to drive the cost of military purchases the military relies on contracts made for political posturing I once needed to order a few dozen copies of a computer program I researched suppliers and found a vendor that offered the exact software I needed at a great price I submitted my purchase order and had it denied I was denied for two reasons One the vendor I chose had packaged a free game CD with what I needed and two it was not a preferred vendor I went with a local vendor instead of a large retailer The cost was more than double to order from the retailer I explained that I had no interest in the game I offered to let my logistics department open and remove the games prior to delivering to me I was denied I ordered the software from the retailer and spent thousands more than I should have Similar examples of restricting the market can be found all over the military Applying a little integrity to the way the government procures goods and services or constructs contracts would save tons of money Response 2 Up until recently I worked for an insurance company that is based out of Wisconsin and has field agents scattered all over the country that all work from home I went to the home office in Wisconsin last year for training and my manager informed me to be on my best behavior because the home office is filled with video surveillance and hidden microphones all over the building including the elevators and hallways I thought he was just joking until I arrived and had to check in at security and saw a wall of video monitors and several people sitting with headphones as they viewed the monitors I was told that the company is so concerned about harassment and the loss of proprietary information that they had gone to great extremes to monitor all of the facilities and the employees The company also owns it s own residence center for employees to stay in while at training and even the common areas there are monitored when employees are off the clock back at the center during their evening hours I thought this was very unethical and bordering on invasion of privacy that I company would go to such extreme measures because of lack of trust of their employees
