CR Stage 1: GlycolysisVII. CR Stage 2: Pyruvate -> Acetyl CoAOutline of Current Lecture I. CR Stage 3: Citric Acid cycle (Krebs)II. CR Stage 4: Oxidation PhosphorylationIII. Regulation of Cellular Respiration processCurrent LectureI. CR Stage 3: Citric Acid cycle (Krebs)These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.Q: You eat some candy. For each sucrose molecule broken down, how many ATP are produced directly by Krebs cycle? A: 2 ATPs for glucose + 2 ATPs for fructose = 4 ATPs total for each sucrose- Substrate-level phosphorylation: phosphate from other molecules adds to ADP to form ATPII. CR Stage 4: Oxidation Phosphorylation- Cellular location: inner membrane of mitochondria - Products: ATP, water- Is O2 required? Yes!!- Remember: NAD+ makes more ATP than FAD - In this step of cellular respiration, oxygen is the very last electron acceptor (this is one of the main reasons why it is so important in our body)- Oxygen is reduced -> makes water (H20)- Active transport used to transport H+ ions into intermembrane space (low to high concentration)- Facilitated diffusion used for moving H+ down ATP synthase (down concentration gradient) - ATP synthase- (works kind of like a dam) important enzyme that provides energy for the cell to use through the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is the most commonly used "energy currency" of cells from most organisms.III. Regulation of Cellular Respiration process- Cellular respiration must be regulated in order to provide balanced amounts of energy in the form of ATP. - Various mechanisms and enzymes are used to ensure that the process runs smoothlyQ: You are on a diet and lost 10 lbs. Where did the weight go? A: CO2; we convert sugar and lipids into CO2 and you need protein for
