Athletes face physical risk getting injured Some athletes will take risks and chances that will compromise their physical health monetary risk always a risk of money financial gain and losses Lots of money gained in a full college scholarship Social risk athletes friends people want to be associated with an athlete its fun for them perks for the friends lives Do these people like LeBron James for who he is Is it because they re athletes or because they re genuinely nice person ethical risk coach puts a bounty on a player The coach sends you in there to hurt someone on the other team ethically is this right 4 big types of risk Also sideline types of risk much a hero Steal a base in baseball you re the hero If you re out not so down in tennis match point your serve do you just try to get it in the court or do you go for the ace o 2 daughters LOVED being put in those situations o Gabby Douglas some of the moves she did to win the gold High degree of difficulty but she did it and she got the gold o swimming anxious when going off the block There s people like her girls who love those situations and the risk factors in sports psychology looking at what motivates people to want to be put in those situations o goes back to the achievement need The motivation to achieve There are those who are motivated to achieve success and those that are motivated to avoid failure both want to do well but one wants to succeed while one just doesn t want to fail Your personality is based on your hereditary and your environment Parents play such a huge role in both Parents are your first environment everything you do is based on past experience achievement need starts around the age of 2 parents who expect their sons to be independent and do well at an early age tend to have sons with higher motivation mom is usually most influential at age 2 learn self reliance early do well in competitive sports Who your parents are determine a lot of what you re doing exercise with motivated to achieve success and motivated to avoid failure people 3 hula hoops at different lengths close middle and far gave kids bean bags told them to throw it in the hula hoop Results motivated to avoid failure furthest or closest hula hoop If you miss the far one no one expected them to make it anyway Playing not to lose motivated to achieve success the middle one Always wanted to get it in the hula hoop 50 50 chance athletes found to be in achievement need than non athletes The athletic arena gives them an opportunity to fulfill achievement need Stress in sport The stress when you get into the game is transferred into excitement There are people who just enjoy the thrill and the element because they ve trained hard and it pays off for them After education most important thing we ll choose is our mate Parents keep in mind your kids will model after you want to be a good role model want them to be good in something expose them to that good at reading should show them that you sit down and take set goals for your kids time to read all kinds of ways to set examples for your kids
