February 25 2015 Trace the political cultural and military aspects Trace the characters Santa Anna James Bowie Davy Crockett Sam Houston Men from Gonzalez Juan Seguin William Travis At least one instance where you feel that the historical information has been Hollywooded out Alamo was established as a Spanish mission in 1718 Washington D C 1835 o Party o Davy Crockett and Sam Houston are talking o There is a show made about Davy Crocket San Felipe Texas o House full of men o Houston s been drinking o Men want to remove Houston from commander for the Scottish guy o Bowie runs in with his knife o William Travis s wife asks for some sort of separation He wants the son to have male influence so the mom gets the daughter and he puts the son with a foster family because he plans to leave Leaving the son may have been Hollywooded On their journey At the Alamo roof o James Bowie is remembering a time long ago where he was at a party and met a woman o Well armed but not very well looked after o The church was made in 1756 but the Catholics never quite finished it and left off the o As goes the Alamo so does Texas o William Travis is left in command by the other commander who is leaving on a trip Travis gets commander s quarters Mexican army is marching through the cold and snow getting closer At the Alamo o William Travis comes up to Bowie while he is drinking with some buddies by a fire o Travis thinks Bowie plans to take down the mission Tells Bowie to get his men under control or he will o There is a report of troops outside the town Turns out they re actually on the same side Davy Crockett is the leader of the troops Thought the fighting was over Mexican army o Tells Santa Anna they have captured another group of rebels o They are drowning them o Santa Anna turns away from tradition and says to kill them all instead of letting them draw lots At the Alamo o Argue that Travis doesn t have absolute command Call Travis a debtor who left his pregnant wife in the middle of the night Calls Bowie a man who married his wife for her father s money o No one will raise their hand for Travis to be commander o Everyone raises their hand for Bowie o Travis says Bowie can command the militia but nothing else o Accuse Travis of bending the rules o Bell tolls in the morning Everyone stops to look at the tower Troops are rolling over the hills o Bowie is bleeding when he coughs o Alamo men are preparing to fight Rolling out the cannons Getting guns People are running Chaos o Travis is sitting there calmly Has to get couriers out while there s still time Tells Bowie that he has to defend a certain place Mexican army comes in formation o People cheer for them o The army says that the Texans desire a truce Colonel Bowie is talking to the troops on the bridge and breaking the trust Mexican army o Santa Anna asks about Houston and Bowie o One of his people tells him about Crockett o They are all excited and confident At the Alamo o Bowie gives his men instructions o Bowie says he has typhoid pneumonia o Bowie gives Crockett his knife while they re talking o Trying to negotiate peace and Travis screws everything up by shooting a cannon at them
