Freud’s Stages of Psychosexual DevelopmentFreud says that development is learning to channel one’s sexual and aggressive drives in socially acceptable ways. The first stage is the oral stage, which takes place from birth to two years of age. This stage is where the infant places many things inside of their mouth for stimulation and development of the mouth and teeth. This includes breastfeeding, which is the infants main source of food and nutrition during this stage. The next stage is Anal, which last from 2 to 4 years of age. This is where the development of toilet training lis learned by the child.The next stage of development is the phallic stage,which lasts from 4 to 7 years of age for the child. This is where the oedipus complex is developed, as well as penis envy and the electra complex. The Oedipus complex is where boys are conditioned to be attracted to their mothers and women who are like their mothers, and vice versa for girls and their fathers. The latency stage is the fourth stage, and lasts from 7 to 13 years of age. The final stage is the genital stage, and lasts from 13 to 18 years of age. This is where children enter puberty and develop sexually, and begin to explore in their sexual desires. II. Psychosocial DevelopmentPsychosocial development was studied by the psychologist Erikson, who developed the psychosocial stages of development. The first of these stages was basic trust vs. mistrust, which was learned from 0 to 2 years of age. During this stage, infants learn to trust their parents, especially their mothers, and seek them for comfort and safety from others that they mistrust. The next stage was initiative vs. shame, where infants learn to feelThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. The next stage is initiative vs guilt, where children learn to feel responsible for mistakes they make, and that their actions can effect other people. This is learned from 4 to 7 years of age.Industry vs. Inferiority is developed from 7 to 13 years of age, and is where children learn when they are superior or inferior to other children in terms of skill, strength, and smarts. This stage can be very troubling for the children. The next stage is identity vs role confusion, where adolescents begin to learn who they are as people and where they fit into their society. This is learned from 13 to 18 years of age. When the teen enters early adulthood, they experience intimacy vs. isolation, and begin to develop relationships with the opposite sex, and live on their own for the first time. In mid adulthood, they learn generativity vs stagnation, and in late adulthood, they learn integrity vs. despair. All of these stages represent a major change and development in the lifestyle and process of living for a
