LINGUIS 100 1st Edition Lecture 2Communicative Signals vs. Informative Signals Unintentional Informative Signals- someone listening to you may become informed about you through a number of signals (not intentionally sent)Whereas communicative signals are generally thought to be intentional, or something that a person wants to convey to another by way of speech We think of communication as primary function of human language, but it is not distinguishing feature of it. Why is this?---> Because all creatures communicate, but they are not able to think about or reflect onthe way they are doing so, whereas humans are Then we can say that Reflexivity is what distinguishing our language (as humans) from other languages of the world, i.e. animal and computer→ Reflexivity accounts for the fact that we can use language on the behalf of thinking about itself.
