Cardiovascular System 03 25 2010 Heart maintains homestasis Supplies oxygen co2 and nutrients Heart 4 chambers o 2 atria 2 ventricle o The atria contract at once o followed by the ventricles contracting together look at heart is if it was the patients heart flow RA RV pulmonary trunk lungs LA LV aorta coronary sulcus filled with fat arteries blood vessels carry away from heart veins blood vessels carry to the heart capillaries connect arteries and veins three or four varieties exchange vessels because thin walls permit exchange between nutrients Cirulatory circuit Pulmonary to and from lungs o Oxygen poor blood from heart to lungs o Oxygen rich blood from lungs to heart Systemic circuit to and from all organs in body o Oxygen poor from organs to heart o Oxygen rich from heart to organs Superior vena cava vein into RA from upper parts Inferior vena cava vein into RA from lower parts Valves Tricuspid right side three flaps Bicuspid left side two flaps Pulmonary semilunar b w LV and pulmonary arteries Aortic semilunar b w Pericardial sac and cavity Space to cushion pericardial space Flexible sac that holds it Surrounds hear like a balloon Surrounded by two layers serous pericardium o Visceral pericardium o Parietal pericardium Heart consists of three layers o Epicardium Visceral layer of pericadrium o Myocardium bulky uscle of the heart o Endocardium endothelium inner layer Mediastinum space where heart is located in the cavity In between the two lungs Superior above the 5 vertebrae and everything in it Middle hert and peridcardium sac Inferior Memorize the transverse image of the heart Slight to the left of the midline Sits at an angle Rotated slight to the left Muscle Cells o o o o Long cylindrical fibers composed of individuals cells that show branchng Mono mucleated in the center Begin and end at specialized contact juctions called intercalated discs o Gap junctions not common at the ends where they might be pulled apart o Desmosome o Fascia adherens Satellite cell NOT present no stem cells o No capacity for replacement or regeneration of damaged cardiac muscle cells o Damaged heart are forever damaged Not under voluntary control innervated by ANS Bulk is the myocardium Totally dependent on aerobic respiration Semi rigid connective tissue frame of the heart Stabilizes heart contractile cells and valves Support muscle cells blood vessels and Vessels If shut off anterior interventricular branch of LCA then shut off the blood supply of the left ventricle o Called angle of death or widow maker No continuation between circumflex of LCA and RCA Great cardiac vein runs with anterior interventricular branch of LCA in the coronary sulcus o Picking of venous branches and dumps into the coronary sinus o Goes into right atrium then all blood drains into cornary sinus o Only exception is the anterior cardiac sinus dumps directly into RA Three valves that feed into coronary artery in the aortic semilunar valve 03 25 2010 03 25 2010
