Telltale signs of the Anxious-Avoidant Trap- The Roller-Coaster Effect: Variable ratio reinforcement with periodic availability with the avoidant attached partner- The Emotional Counter Balancing Act: People who are avoidant need a partner who have been taught to feel “less than, needy and incapable”- Stable Instability: Relationship may last a long time, but because chronically dissatisfying to one or both partners- Are We Really Fighting About This: You and others may feel you are constantly fighting about silly things; The underlying issue is really amount of intimacy - Life In the Inner Circle as the Enemy: Anxiously attached people often find that they are treated worse and worse as they become the person closest to a partner with avoidant attachment style - Experiencing the Trap: Develop sense that the relationship is not right for you; but, you feel too emotionally connected to leaveb. Without some type of intervention, the anxiously attached partner is the one who usually has to make concessions and accept the rules imposed by the avoidant partnerc. Intimacy differences can spill over into more and more areas of life. Every life transition and choice can result in an intimacy gapd. Conflict is often left unresolved because resolution of conflict creates too much intimacy. Avoidantly attached people grow more hostile and distant as argumentsprogress, both secure and anxiously attached people seek resolution and feel greater intimacy when resolution is resolved e.
