Week One Discussion Question Two Due Day Three Media conglomerates are getting bigger and bigger with more and more media companies concentrating into fewer hands Do you think this is a positive or negative trend Why Such media conglomerates are in my opinion a negative trend It can cause harm to the United States as well as other nations that are engaged in showing programs that are made in the US This is because such media conglomerates are becoming a single media company Conglomerate Company that showcases different opinions and views giving the effect of turning from the established media companies into theirs Lessening the media companies which are of opposite views might result to a limited right to free speech giving only one part of the whole issue and the other half concealed a result of the conglomerate of influencing one s viewpoint The Conglomerate Company do own media related businesses such as broadcasting movie production and the like This gives others of the same filed to have no other choice but to follow the trend the conglomerate has set or to give itself up to the more established media companies This is called the vertical integration On the other hand there is also the horizontal integration wherein the conglomerate company keeps on itself the different businesses it has from its competitors as it is not dependent on them such as a television station or a publishing company owned by one enterprise Analyzing the two integrations it can be said that the horizontal integration is more advisable as it produces less risk upon investing as compared to the vertical integration as there are greater chances for the different types and kinds of media to succeed The vertical integration is not recommended as it poses a serious risk by losing their clients or viewers The use of other types of media such as books magazines news papers and other print as well as electronic media is changing Investing on paper mills is also not advisable as it is not of a necessity Doing so would only cause a downward spiral
