Print Media Comparison COM 340 Print Media Comparison Engaging in off shore drilling results to having a tendency for harmful and dangerous environment related disasters Take as an example the event last spring of 2010 when the water of the Gulf of Mexico was damaged by the British Petroleum Hereunder is an example of two articles of different media types magazine and news paper It will allow us to give comparisons and contrasts with the two regarding its style and format Also such paper will reveal the reason behind contrasting differences between the two Print Media Type Comparison Newspaper and Magazine Print media from a magazine An example is the Birder s World magazine which is primarily for catering the needs of brides not very close to that which a newspaper contains A significant characteristic of magazines that differs from a newspaper is that the former contains various topics and information written by different authors with the help of photography It is published every month and is of a compilation basis One topic may cover how the Brown Pelican was abolished in the Endangered Species List Birder s World 2010 Such a magazine which is intended o give information that is all about birds caters to a specific set of target market and can only be a success over bird enthusiasts in which the aforementioned event in the gulf happened It also embodied the other side effects such an event gave way to which includes the birds food chain the future breed of birds the Masked Booby and other almost permanent effects on birds Birder s World 2010 Print media from an online international newspaper The Brider s World magazine may also come in a newspaper article having the same contents and thought However its topic is much broader than what is published in magazines As compared to magazines newspapers are produced daily upon subscribing or individual sales on a daily or weekly basis The same may be printed or may also be uploaded and released via internet which is more accessible to people hence the efficiency it has Different methods of publishing new articles may be used such as print or online publishing Nevertheless it still differs from the magazine Let us take for example regarding this aspect the Christian Science Monitor which an online newspaper is publishing daily all over the world which also published an article regarding that which Birder s World did Unlike the latter the former used the topic in a general sense rather than focusing on the particular event The Christian Science Monitor gave its views as well as concerns not only for the birds but for all animals including those who live in the wildlife Bill Sasser wrote the particular article in Christian Science Monitor 2010 and stated that a number of breeding blue fin tunas manatees in Florida and the ridley sea turtles in Kemp are among those which are affected by the oil spill event The natives of Louisiana the Brown Pelicans are also affected Sasser 2010 Reasons for Print Media Style Differences It may seem difficult to figure why there are differences between newspapers and magazines both in style and in content Magazines are more on creativity and in demand topics focusing more on its features and letting creativity flow freely with the use of its contents photography and the like On the other hand newspapers tackle those that are direct to the point and of public concern worldwide Therefore it can be said that the two types of media differ in the sense that newspapers cater to the general public for its contents relate to them as a matter of public concern while magazines are for a specific target market only Conclusion It is undeniable that both Birder s World magazine as well as the Christian Science Monitor newspaper are reliable and true Both gives quality information of relevancy to present times given as an example the coverage of both print medias to the British Petroleum event The two types of print media differ on the target audience they have newspaper for the general public while magazines for a particular group within the public only Also the topic regarding the event they cover differs in a sense that the newspaper covers all the topics related with the said event while the magazine only covers that which affects birds as the said magazine s topic is all about birds only With this said newspapers are for readers who are interested and or concerned for thorough and most relevant information while those who are more of the creative minds looking for ideas in photography or creative writing styles it is more recommended to read magazines References Birder s World 2010 August 10 BP oil spill leaves no Gulf birds untouched birding briefs Birds and the Gulf oil spill endangered
