provide a definition of the selected term who what when where along with an explanation of the terms significance to American history why important The following terms may be found on the exam Special capital to buy Carnegie Steel AND all of the resources needed to own the process nationwide This is significant because it is the first use and created a 1 billion dollar company called United States will answer one of the following essays which will be chosen by Dr McGuire on the mid term 1 The Reconstruction Era was intended to solve the problem of putting the United States back together after the American Civil War but was fraught with a number of complications What were the two main plans for Reconstruction after the Civil War and how did those two plans come into conflict with one another What were the problems African Americans faced following the end of slavery and how did the U S government address those concerns Finally explain the factors that ultimately led to the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and the ramifications of Reconstruction ending in this fashion 3 Key Areas to talk about 1 Two main plans Radical Republicans President Johnson a Radical Republicans goal South should be punished for seceding and blacks and whites should be treated equal 3 components to plan Military districts fun states in south 1 2 writing new state constitution with blacks and whites both writing 1 2 14th amendment 1 2 b President Johnson goal South reintegration easily and painlessly by issue pardons oath 1 2 sentences writing new state constitutions should be done by whites only 1 2 freedman s bureau 3 4 c Conflict issue of equality is a conflict issue of punishment 3 4 where conflicts come up Johnson appears to win by few problems are actually being solved 2 African American concerns and the methods they used to address those concerns What worries did Progressives have about the consequences of industrialization and did Progressives have any successes in reforming
