intentionally or unintentionally generate meaning information ideas feelings and perceptions within and across various contexts cultures channels and media o Abstract social process o Communication is o Symbol something that stands for something else 2 kinds Verbal symbols words in a language Nonverbal symbols ways we communicate without using words such as facial expressions gesture posture vocal
