PSYC 1315 1st Edition Lecture 20Last LectureThinking, intelligence, and language Current Lecture Thinking, intelligence, and language IQ: Single number derived from performance on a test most widely used for psych measure in the world, it’s a valid test. To find IQ you take Mental Age and divide it by Chronological age and multiply it by 100. (Mental age means individuals level of mental development is relative to that of others.) Nature vs. Nurture? The most genetically similar people have the most similar score. In this case, identical twins for instance. Identical twins that live or grew up in the same environment have a score of higher intelligence than identical twins who grew up separated or in different environments. They still have high intelligence just not as high if they were living together. Heritability:Proportion of observable differences genes of the groups members. Flynn Effect:Rapidly increasing IQ test scores Gifted: (An IQ score of 130 or higher) and or/ superior talent in a particular area Mental Retardation: (IQ under 70) and has difficulty adapting to everyday life Savants: limited intellectual or social functioning overall, butexhibit tremendous “gifts” in a certain domain Stanberg developed the tharchic theory: Analytical intelligence- ability to judge, evaluate, compare and contrast Creative intelligence- create a design, invert, orginate, and imagine Practical intelligence- ability to use, apply, implement, and put ideas into practiceHoward Gardner are 8 types of intelligence: Verbal, Mathematical, Spatial, Bodily Kinesthetic, Muscial, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal,
