It was an alignment of musicians with rural, working class and indigenous populations. The artists expressed this through the music they composed. Nueva Cancion was composed largely of middle class youth and contained Folk and pan-Latin American musical elements. Musica tipica was the music that their parents may have listened to and they were trying to differentiate themselves from this as well as from rock music. They gave support for socialist and communist candidates including Salvador Allende.Nueva Cancion ArtistsOne of the Nueva Cancion artists was a band called Inti-Illimani.
