Definition of Exit CriteriaExit Criteria answers the questions:- How do I know that I am finished with a task or completed with an objective?- What are the requirements/standards that I must refer to if I were to show someone that I have completed all of my work accurately?Characteristics of Exit Criteria- States what results or items must be contained in a delivered product, i.e. the results of having completed a process- States for each specified result or item, the "Standard of Acceptance" associated with each item A Standard of Acceptance states what would satisfy the desired level of quality of each result A Standard of Acceptance must be stated in a binary manner, thereby allowing anyone to objectively judge whether a result has been met or not Each Standard of Acceptance must have an associated standard so that someone could be shown that the standard was in fact metOperational Definition of Entry/Exit CriteriaOperationally, Entry/Exit Criteria can be determined by asking about the completeness and accuracy of an operation's output- Completeness is a set of statements defining all the items that make up a finished document. Each statement becomes an "item" in the exit criteria- Accuracy, the standards of acceptance for each item, is a combination of two statements: The definitive source of information, conditions, or rules for data found in the document being considered The standard that defines how that information is to be formatted or depictedExample (My Presentations)A Context For the DefinitionsFagan's "The Interrelated Elements of a Process"Formal Process DefinitionsObjectives- Products and/or services that must be delivered by the process- What is to be accomplished? What products must be delivered from the process? What services must be delivered from the process? What process constraints must be met to satisfy objectives? Budget? Schedule? Head-Count? Hardware Resources? Software Resources? Objectives must be documentedFormal Process Definitions (cont.)Entry Criteria: For each objective,- Items required to commence the process, and- Standard of acceptance for each itemExit Criteria: For each objective,- Items to be delivered by the process, and- Standard of acceptance for each itemFunction: For each objective,- Specific tasks/activities executed Converting input items to output items Input items must conform to entry criteria Output items will conform to exit criteria Ensuring all objectives & process constraints are metEntry/Exit Criteria Definition and Examples A.
