Group #6: Mission Science Information and Database SystemBrian AndersonYujie ChenCelia KungHardik ShahZhenlu SunClient Interaction Report1. List the questions that you asked and were asked by the clients.Questions We Asked Questions Client Asked- Can we change the current schema of the database?- What is the client trying to achieve with the new system?- The client specifies that he needs interaction between the various databases; so why are the databases separate? Can we combine all of the data into one database system?- Who are the current users of the system? Student workers, administrators, etc.?- What is the reason for the curriculum database frequent crashes?- Do you want a user interface for the database?- How familiar are you with databases?2. Describe the infrastructure currently utilized at the client’s organization (i.e. hardware, software, network, etc.)The current system includes one Windows 7 PC with Microsoft Access 2007. There is also a shared drive so that student workers can also modify the five databases, and this is done through Access. No network connection is required.3. List all of the artifacts used by the system or by the users in operating the system. Provide a brief description about each artifact. For artifacts that have not been shown orgiven to you but have requested for, specify the planned delivery date for them.Artifact Description Requested/Shown/Receive Planned Delivery DateBooks and ExperimentsDatabaseHolds a list of project books and forms for inputting or modifying existing books in the database. This database Shown April 2012is connected to the Pre College Lesson Database.Inventory DatabaseMaintains a record of all of the supplies and materials for the projects and allows for update of the inventory counts. Also holds list of materials that are checked inour out to various sites.Shown April 2012Mission Science DatabaseContains forms for adding ormodifying a student’s information.Shown April 2012Mission Science SignIn Input DatabaseUsed for entering student data based on sign-in sheet by project. This database is connected to the Mission Science Database. Shown April 2012Pre College Lesson DatabaseHolds information about each project, along with the procedures, materials, lessonplans, pictures, and CA state requirements. This database is linked to the Mission Science Database, Inventory Database, and the Books andExperiments Database.Shown April 20124. Sketch the business workflows around the current system.QuickTime™ and a decompressorare needed to see this picture.5. As clients may sometimes leave out critical information when proposing a project, suggest any changes that need to be made to the project description to correctly reflect the project that you are actually implementing (e.g. include technical details). On the project page for Project #6: Mission Science Information and Database System:- Under “Current System” section, client states that “currently four separate MS Accessdatabases are maintained,” but 5 databases actually exist.- Under “Desired System” section, client requests that the database be accessible from network drive from multiple locations with multiple users; however, given the time constraint, for this class we will be focusing solely on the restructuring of the system.- Under “Desired System” section, client requests that database be able to be synchronized on a flash drive; we have to look into this to see if this is doable, especially given a time constraint.- Under “Desired System” section, client states that the database is “MS Access,” but the client claims that we can use any database management system. Also, the current system the client is using is MS Access 2007.- We would like more information on which database tables are actually still being maintained, and we would like to know specifically what type of information he would like to store, so that we can come up with a complete database design that incorporates all of the client’s particular needs.- We would like a document that thoroughly explains each existing database and the information that it stores.- This project is probably a two-semester project, rather than a “1-2
