PrivateCurrent LectureThe nail that sticks up gets hammered down (Chinese saying)The nail that sticks up is brave (American Saying)Social Influence- occasions when a person’s thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors are influenced by others Different types of Social Influence:- Conformity- what happens when a person behaves like others- Compliance- when a person agrees to the requests made by others- Obedience- when a person agrees to the requests made by a person of authority -DEMANDS StudyPeople sit down at a round table with confederates. The participant always sits in seat 6. Theyare shown a line and three other lines on a separate sheet of paper. They are to state which other line matches the single line. The group says the correct line the first couple tries and then everyone starts stating the wrong line. Does the participant say the right thing or go along with the group?About 2/3 of the people conformed at some point or another during the study and stated the wrong line. 2 Types of conformityThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
